Fluent With Jason – Your Spark for Fluency

Jason

Hi, I'm Jason.

Your spark for fluency.

I'm a Native English Coach who thinks like a partner, not a professor. Because I’m actively learning three other languages myself, I don’t just teach English—I understand the challenges learners face.

My Background

Hi, I’m Jason, a 23-year-old native Californian with a lifelong curiosity for languages, technology, and how systems work.

I’m a geek at heart. I love Star Wars, gaming, and digging into anything that lets me learn or build something new. My background isn’t in traditional education—I actually majored in Cybersecurity. But that’s exactly what shaped the way I teach.

That technical training taught me to see patterns, simplify complexity, and optimize systems. And when I started learning languages myself, I immediately noticed something: the traditional classroom was full of inefficiencies. Too much memorization. Too many rules. Not enough clarity.

So I approached English the same way I approached tech: strip away the fluff, keep what works, and make the whole system easier to understand.

I don’t see English as a chaotic list of exceptions—I see it as a structure you can decode. Once you see the patterns, English becomes logical, predictable, and even hackable.

Fluent With Jason is the result: a learning system built for clarity, speed, and real-world results—designed to make English feel simple, intuitive, and genuinely fun.

Why I Do This

Like many of you, I've spent countless hours learning a new language. I know the challenges and the rewards. My journey into teaching began in language exchanges, where I found incredible joy in helping others with their English.

That feeling of simplifying a difficult concept and seeing the "aha!" moment in a partner's eyes made me realize this was what I wanted to do.

But I noticed a pattern. Bright, motivated learners were freezing up when it was time to have a real conversation. This is the "False Beginner" trap—feeling stuck between knowing about English and actually being able to use it.

Traditional methods often fail here because they focus on rules instead of connection, creating anxiety rather than confidence. I built a new approach to break you out of that cycle. It uses a modern, empathetic foundation designed to do one thing: empower you with the confidence to finally communicate in the real world.

"Whether it's through a structured lesson path or a low-pressure gaming session, my goal is to be your spark for fluency."

My Core Values

Empathy

I teach from the perspective of a learner, not just a teacher. I know the anxiety of speaking, so I lead with patience and understanding.

Efficiency

I hate wasting time. If a grammar rule doesn't help you speak or understand real life, we skip it. We focus on high-frequency language.

Empowerment

My goal is to make myself obsolete. I want to give you the tools, systems, and confidence to navigate the English world independently.

My Teaching Methodology: The "Fluent" System

For those who are curious, here is the science-backed system that powers every course. This is how I get you real-world results.

Core Philosophy

Communicative Language Teaching (CLT)

What it is: A philosophy that the main goal of language learning is *effective real-world communication*, not just passing tests.

How I use it: My courses prioritize being understood in authentic conversations. I focus on fluency and confidence first.

Core Method

Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT)

What it is: Lessons built around completing practical, real-world tasks, not just abstract grammar topics.

How I use it: You'll learn by doing. My lessons are built around "Can-Do" statements like "I can tell a story about my vacation."

Learning Environment

The Affective Filter

What it is: The emotional "wall" (anxiety, boredom, low confidence) that blocks learning, even with good lessons.

How I use it: This is a "no-fear" environment. My lessons, gaming sessions, and community are designed to be low-pressure and supportive to keep this wall down.

Lesson Structure

Comprehensible Input (i+1)

What it is: The concept that we learn best by understanding input just *one small step* beyond our current level ("i+1").

How I use it: My lessons are carefully designed to stretch you, but not overwhelm you, ensuring you're always making progress.

Curriculum Structure

Spiral Curriculum

What it is: A curriculum designed to reinforce your memory by revisiting concepts over time at increasing levels of complexity.

How I use it: You won't just learn a grammar point and move on. I'll revisit key concepts in different contexts, reinforcing your skills.

Vocabulary Strategy

The New General Service List (NGSL)

What it is: A scientifically selected list of the 2,800 most frequent words in English, which account for over 90% of real-world communication.

How I use it: This is **my** "scientific shortcut." I build your core vocabulary around these high-value words first.

Memory Optimization

Spaced Repetition (SRS)

What it is: A scientifically-proven technique that overcomes the "forgetting curve" by reviewing information at specific intervals.

How I use it: I provide pre-made Anki (digital flashcard) decks for my courses that use SRS, ensuring what you learn *sticks*.

What I Am Learning Right Now

I am a student, just like you. Here are the specific challenges I am working on this month.

The Challenge

Japanese

Goal: Reach JLPT N4 level.

Struggle: Expanding my vocabulary. New kanji makes it hard, but I use my systems to keep going.

The Newbie Phase

Mandarin Chinese

Goal: Basic conversation survival.

Struggle: Tones. My mouth isn't used to making these sounds yet!

The Heritage

Spanish

Goal: Professional fluency.

Struggle: Re-learning grammar rules I forgot from my childhood.

How I Learn Languages

I don't just teach. I am in the trenches learning Japanese and Chinese every day. These are the tools I actually use.

Anki (SRS)

My brain isn't a hard drive; it forgets things. I use Anki every single morning to review vocabulary. It handles the memory management so I can focus on speaking.

Active Immersion

I don't study textbooks. I consume content made for native speakers. I watch tech reviews on YouTube and listen to podcasts to hear the *real* flow of the language.

Output Early

I don't wait until I am "ready." I start speaking immediately, even if I make mistakes. The goal is connection, not perfection. I embrace the awkwardness.

Common Questions

Why "Fluent With Jason"?

Because I believe fluency isn't about passing a test; it's about connecting with people. I created this platform to be the bridge I wish I had—combining the fun of gaming with the structure of serious language learning.

Is it really just you running everything?

Yes! I'm a solopreneur. I built the site, wrote the curriculum and maintain everything. This keeps the vision pure and the quality high.

Why focus on "False Beginners"?

Because that was me. I spent years self-studying languages but still froze up in real conversations. I realized most resources serve total beginners well but abandon people in that awkward "stuck" phase. I built this to bridge that gap.

What languages are you learning?

I'm a passionate self-studier. Currently, I'm deep into Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. Spanish is my heritage language.

What are your favorite games?

My current favorites are Marvel Rivals, World War Z, and Dead Island 2. I'm a huge fan of zombie horror—if a game has zombies, I'll usually love it immediately!
